Philosophy

Every swimmer, great or not yet great, has the right to become the best he possibly can.  As stated, it is a TEAM goal to create an atmosphere where this is not only possible, but inevitable.  It is with this in mind, that the frequency and content of practice opportunities will be planned.  This will be consistent with each practice group's current, as well as, expected performance levels.  Each athlete's attendance and participation at these practices is critical to their success.  Athletes well enough to attend school are well enough to attend practice.  Conversely, if  an athlete is well enough to practice they should be at school.  Every swimmer will have a TARGET meet.  This meet, whether a dual meet, freshman Central Suburban League (CSL), junior varsity CSL, varsity CSL, sectionals, or state, is the meet where the physical and mental preparation  peak for optimum performance.

Hard work is the cornerstone of our swimming TEAM.  We will always work harder and do more then seems necessary - hard,  SMART WORK.  Sometimes hard because of the yardage, sometimes because of the intensity, technique work or dry land.  However, always working smart by concentrating on and getting the most out of each phase of our training program.

The TEAM is of the utmost importance.  Swimmers will be placed in division meets (varsity, junior varsity or frosh) and events with TEAM strength in mind.  Likewise, relays will be put together based on the TEAM objectives for that meet.  There is a niche for every one, find yours and excel.

The first step towards being a champion is to act like one.  We will always behave with class and treat our opponents as we would like to be treated.  Respect your opponent, great or small, for they bring out the best in you.

Be proud to be a swimmer or diver.  You are totally unique!  Don't be afraid to standout in the crowd!  Two a day practices,  messed up hair, social sacrifices, early to bed and early to rise make you different.  You are also different because you set goals, work and sacrifice to obtain them.  You have direction, know where you are going and how to get there.  You take part in the most demanding sports in the world:

"Victory is what happens when ten-thousand hours of training meet with one moment of opportunity"
