Congratulations to senior Molly Quirke, who will be playing in the Under Armour Senior All-American game July 4th at Towson University in Baltimore. . . Congratulations to juniors Janie Gion and Taylor McGinnis, who will be playing in the Under Armour Underclassmen All-American games for the Midwest Region girls team July 3-4th at Townson University. . .

Trevian comeback falls short in state final

New Trier jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but Loyola answered back to make it 10-4 at half. The Trevians came out strong in the second half, cutting the lead to 10-7 and then 11-10 before Loyola was able to control the ball on eventually win 18-11.

New Trier advances to State Final with win over Montini

The Trevians will play Loyola Academy on Friday at 7 pm after knocking off Montini Catholic 23-7 in Wednesday's IHSWLA state semi-final game. The Trevians (19-3-1) led 15-1 at half en route to the win. Loyola (23-1) defeated Hinsdale Central 17-3. The game is at Northwestern's Lakeside Field and tickets to the game are $6.

Trevians move on after defeating GBS 17-4

New Trier knew that Glenbrook South had a very strong offense, but it was an impressive defense effort by the Titans that frustrated the Trevians early in the game and kept Glenbrook South in the game. New Trier was held scoreless for almost eight minutes, when Gwen Gummersall finally fed to Molly Quirke on a cut to the goal to get the Trevians on the board at 17:13. New Trier led 7-0 when Glenbrook South's Kerry Kofod scored with 7:58 left in the half. The Trevs answered back by another feed from Gummersall to Erin Roos and a crease roll by Janie Gion to make it 9-2 at half. The Titans cut the lead to 10-4, but New Trier scored seven unanswered goals and shutout the Titans for the final 18 minutes of the game with solid defense to prevent a comeback. Gion finished with 6 goals and Roos had a season high 4 goals.

New Trier rolls to win over Deerfield

The Trevians knocked off Deerfield 22-1 to advance to the Semi-finals of the Glenbrook South Sectional, where they will face Libertyville next Monday at 5 pm. New Trier (16-3-1) controlled the ball the entire game, en route to the victory. The attack was led by Molly Quirke (2 goals, 6 assists), Gwen Gummersall (5 goals), Kelsey Murray (4 goals), Jake Remien (2 goals, 2 assists) and Janie Gion (2 goals, 2 assists). Central Suburban All-Conference Selections announced

The 2010 CSL All-Conference players were selected by the head coaches at the post-season conference meeting. Of the 24 players, New Trier had eight All-Conference selections. Congratulations to seniors Erin Roos, Molly Quirke, Gwen Gummersall and Jake Remien; juniors Taylor McGinnis, Kristin Wright and Janie Gion; and freshman Kelsey Murray.

Homecoming for New Trier alum Jillian Heinz as Duke senior faces Northwestern Saturday

When Duke faces Northwestern on Saturday, it will be a special homecoming for Jillian Heinz, as she will be able to play in front of family and friends, in what could be either her last collegiate game or a berth in the NCAA final four next weekind in Baltimore. Heinz, a 2006 graduate, has had a tremendous career for the Blue Devils. Saturday's quarter-final will be Heinz's 34th start in the midfield. She has 6 goals, 30 ground balls, 17 draw controls and 21 caused turnovers as a senior. The game starts at 1 pm at Lakeside Field.

Buxton finishes career at Vermont among top all-time scorers

New Trier alum Sara Buxton, class of 2006, finished an outstanding career for the Catamounts. Buxton became the ninth player to score 100 points in her career at Vermont and finished eight on the all-time career leader for points with 113. She also finished sixth all-time in goals with 96, and seventh in draw controls with 77. Buxton showed tremendous leadership, heart and durability in her career, demonstrated by her winning Vermont's "Unsung Player" award and finishing her career 2nd all-time in most games played (66) at Vermont. Congratulations on an outstanding lacrosse career at Vermont!

Trevs finish season with win over Barrington

On senior day, the Trevians controlled the game from the opening draw. New Trier won 24-0 behind a swarming defense on transition and a ball control offense. The Trevians won the draws 19-7 and outshot Barrington 43-4. A season high 14 players contributed toward the scoring, led by Gwen Gummersall (4 goals, 3 assists), Janie Gion (2 goals, 4 assists), Molly Quirke (1 goal, 4 assists) and Kelsey Murray (4 goals). Murray led the Trevs with 8 draw controls. New Trier (15-3-1) will find out on Thursday night at the seeding meeting who they will face in the regional round of the state tournament.

New Trier takes conference crown with win over GBS

The Trevians won the Central Suburban League conference with an 18-4 victory over the #3 Titans on Youth Lacrosse Day. New Trier (13-3-1, 5-0 CSL) controlled the draws and owned the midifield, preventing Glenbrook South (12-6, 4-1 CSL) from being able to get on attack. The Trevs play on Saturday against the Minnesota state runner up, The Blake School, at 1 pm in Madision.

Comeback falls short for Trevs against Ramblers

After New Trier and Loyola traded early goals to make it a 4-4 tie, the Ramblers capitalized on several costly turnovers in the defensive end by New Trier to make it 7-4. New Trier made it 7-5, but Loyola went on another three goal run to make it 10-5 at half. However, the Trevs mounted a rally in the second half, cutting the lead to three twice, 13-10 and then 14-11 with just over two minutes remaining. However, a false start on a free position gave the Ramblers the ball and the comeback fell short, and the score remained 14-11 Loyola. Molly Quirke had four goals and freshman Kelsey Murray had three goals. Gwen Gummersall added two goals and Jake Remien and Janie Gion each tallied a score also. The defense stiffened in the second half, led by Quirke, Kristin Wright and Christina Wool. Molly Hulseman led the Ramblers with four goals. New Trier faces Glenbrook South on Thursday for the Central Suburban League conference championship at 5 pm on "Youth Lacrosse Day".

New Trier cruises past Highland Park

The Trevians improved to 12-2-1 and 4-0 in the Central Suburban League with a 23-0 shutout against Highland Park. New Trier's defense limited the Giants to four shots all afternoon. The Trevs will host #1 Loyola Academy on Tuesday at 5:00 pm.

Trevs roll over the Red Devils in cancer awareness game

After having to rally back to tie Cleveland Heights in their Windy City finale on Saturday, the Trevs were looking to redeem themselves against Hinsdale Central. New Trier came out strong and controlled the game from the opening draw, rolling to a 20-5 win. Junior Janie Gion found senior Erin Roos wide open in front of the cage to open the scoring. The Trevians jumped out to an 11-1 hafltime lead and never let the Red Devils get back into the game. Gion (3 goals, 6 assists) and senior Molly Quirke (3 goals, 4 assists) led the attack with some great feeds. Gwen Gummersall had five goals and Kelsey Murray added her own hat trick and an assist. In all, 11 different players contributed to the scoring. New Trier will play CSL opponent Highland Park on the road on Thursday at 5 pm. The game was also the "Lax for Life" cancer awareness game, and special thanks to the parents and players in the entire program who sold over 550 "Lax for Life" t-shirts and over 100 raffle tickets to raise money for the American Cancer Society and the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation. Fans may continue to support "Lax for Life" by purchasing raffle tickets for $2 for White Sox tickets, Bears tickets and $50 gift certificates to Lou Malnati's and Lettuce Entertain You. Trevs take care of Upper Arlington at Windy City

New Trier settled a score with Ohio power Upper Arlington on Saturday, as the Trevians broke a 4-4 halftime deadlock with five unanswered goals to beat the Golden Bears 9-6. New Trier held Upper Arlington scoreless for almost 15 minutes to open the second half with solid defense and a ball control offense. Also on Saturday, the Trevians tied Cleveland Heights 9-9 after letting a 4-1 lead slip away in the first half and then rallied back from a 8-6 deficit in the second half behind goals by Janie Gion and Molly Quirke. The offense had two free position shots that rattled off the post in the final two minutes, and senior goalie Brady Loomis made the save of the game when she stopped a free position shot by the Heights with 15 seconds left. On Friday, to kick off the Windy City Classic, New Trier defeated MICDS from St. Louis 17-0. The Trevian defense stepped up and didn't allow a single shot for the Rams.

Trevs remain perfect in conference play with win over Deerfield

New Trier defeated Deerfield 23-2 to lift their record in the Central Suburban League to 3-0. The Trevs has assists on 19 of their goals and had the most balanced attack of the season, as 13 different players contributed toward the scoring. Junior Janie Gion had a career high five assists. New Trier is hosting MICDS from St. Louis on Friday at 7 pm at the Windy City Invitational.

Trevians have a strong showing in win over Scouts

New Trier gave a young Lake Forest team all they could handle, using aggressive pressure defensive and fast breaks en route to a 21-5 victory. The Scouts had to stop a balanced offense that featured 10 different Trevians that contributed toward the scoring. Several Trevs recognized with 2009 post season honors

Congratulations to all of the Trevians that earned post season honors after an outstanding season for New Trier. Juniors Molly Quirke and Gwen Gummersall were named All-Americans by the Chicago-IL US Lacrosse Chapter Selection Committee. Gwen earned All-American Honorable Mention as one of the top attackers in the state, scoring 59 goals and dishing out 21 assists. She also led all attackers in the state with 20 forced turnovers. Quirke made big plays all over the field all year, forcing 51 turnovers, grabbing 59 ground balls and also scored 42 goals. She also had 41 assists, the most of any midfielder in the state. She was named First Team All-American.
